The Journey Begins!

Today was a big day for us in the Priddy household. Sam and I have recently decided to pursue adopting an infant. After we chose a agency in July, went through adoption training, completed a TON of paperwork including fingerprints, and had several meetings with our caseworker, we then became eligible to schedule our homestudy.

For those of you unfamiliar with the adoption process, a homestudy is a lengthy interview where a social worker or caseworker comes to your home to ensure you are fit to be parents and that your home is a safe place to raise a child.

When we first spoke with our social worker she said that most homestudies take about 4+ hours to complete. After the homestudy is complete, if the outcome is favorable, the prospective adoptive parents submit a profile for birthparents to view. From there it is up to the birth parents to choose which family to place their child with once they are born.

Well, our homestudy appointment took place at 1pm today. Sam and I have spent the past few weeks preparing for this intense afternoon. Needless to say, I went on quite the cleaning spree. We were also instructed to start working on our profile so it would be ready if our homestudy was accepted. Sam put together an amazing book of letters and photos for our prospective birthparent(s) to view. We have been busy to say the least.

Our caseworker left this afternoon just before 3pm with our profiles in her hand. The outcome of our homestudy was favorable! So now we wait. Our profile will be available for birthmoms (and birthfathers, too) to view in Coeur d'Alene and also in Boise. How long we will wait is anyone's guess, but the agency has not had anyone wait any longer that one year for a match. (After we match, we will have to wait for the baby to be born...but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.)

So friends, that is our news. Please join with us in praying for our birthmom as we embark on this exciting, exhausting, heart-wrenching journey.
